This is a hardanger fiddle by Steinar Andersen in Siljan, Telemark. This instrument has a rounder, and darker sound than some of his other fiddles. We also enjoy the 'simpler' ornamentation and the beautiful flamed maple on the back plate. This is one of the final opportunities to on of Steinar's new instruments, as he has recently retired from fiddle making.

Steinar Andersen of Siljan, Telemark, was born in Skien on November 30, 1946. As a 16-year-old, he began his career as a repairman of string and wind instruments in the workshop of John Gunnarsson Helland, a member of the renowned fiddle-making Helland family from Bø in Telemark. He then started his own workshop for wind and string instruments when he was 28 years old. In 1974, Steinar made his first Hardanger fiddle, the first of a long line of Hardanger fiddles that would be made in the decades to follow. Some time later, Steinar ran a store and instrument workshop until 2006, after which he moved the workshop to Siljan. Steinar's instruments earned three bronze medals in the national competition for fiddle making at Landskappleiken. Steinar recently retired from fiddle making and leaves behind around 85 fiddles as his legacy.
