We recently acquired a interesting fiddle crafted by H.K. Bringsværd from Vinje, Telemark. It features a gentle tone, ideal for home use or intimate settings, delivering rich warmth and character for those who prioritize beautiful sound over volume. The fingerboard is elegantly decorated with bone and mother-of-pearl, while the spruce top plate and maple back and ribs are decorated with hand-drawn rose patterns. A nice feature of this fiddle is that each understring has its own hook, making string changes much easier.

The fiddle is without label. Exact year of manufacture is unknown, but was built in the first half of the 20th century, most likely sometime between the 1920s and 1940s.

This fiddle has 5 understrings. The strings have recently been replaced with new Rudi Fanitullen strings. The fiddle shows signs of age and use, but this is all cosmetic and does not affect playability. Apart from that, this is a charming fiddle in good playing condition.

H.K. Bringsværd was a fiddle maker from Vinje, Telemark, active in the first half of the 20th century. Though little is known about him, he produced instruments of decent quality. One of his fiddles is on display at the West Telemark Museum, acquired in the 1940s from the fiddle collection of Jon Helland.
