This fiddle, made by Brigt Melstveit in 1968, offers a charming tone with even sound distribution across the range of the instrument. Modern in volume. It is easy to play, making it suitable for a wide range of players. 

The instrument is in excellent condition considering its age with no visible signs of cracks or repairs. and has recently been serviced and set up by the specialists at the Ole Bull Academy.

Five understrings. The top plate is crafted from medium grain spruce, and the ribs and back are made of maple. The fingerboard, tailpiece, and tuning pegs are constructed from fruitwood, featuring bone and mother-of-pearl inlays.

Brigt Melstveit was a fiddler and fiddle maker from Kvam, a village in the Hardanger region east of Bergen. He lived from 1893 to 1983 and is believed to have made between 80 and 90 fiddles.
